Finding The Time

It’s no wonder I never have time to sit down and actually craft or practice baking real a cake!  I pack it on layer after layer.  Planning kids parties for Petite Picasso, mom to a 6 year old, being on the decorations committee for a huge school fundraiser event, and even planning as far ahead as August for my summer art camps!  I am literally going to have to put a craft day per week on my calendar and just force myself until I get into a groove of regular crafting.  A lot of it is just saying, “ok Deida, you can take one day off of errands and party planning to do this for yourself”…..Well see how it goes, I’ll start in April…..   : )

My first project will be these “Toad” Stools.  How awesome are these!  I saw them originally on Etsy.  I am teaching a Garden Gnome summer art camp in July and plan on this being one of their big projects.  The Mammut stools from Ikea were only $8 each.  Kids ages 8-12 will have no problem sewing the red circles together with batting inside, attaching ribbons to loop around the legs and then glueing on the spots.  When I finally get around to this gem of a project I will let you know how it goes!    I ordered 2 extra so I can make a set for my daughters room.

Fondue Christmas Party

I love having parties, dinner parties, new year’s parties, kid’s parties……I have loved them as long as I can remember. I think entertaining friends is one of the most enjoyable things.  I would die a happy girl if my future tombstone read, “she threw a good party”.  Going to such great lengths is a way to really show people how much you love them.  I even plan my own birthday parties.  My husband luckily knows this about me, he gets it.  I am not allowed to thrown many parties at our house because, well, they tend be a little too much fun and my husband detests messes.  So when I do, I go all out!  Later I will post my past themed parties.

This is my new obsession, gourmet jello shots.  Good bye packaged jello and cheap vodka, hello gourmet!  Here you have vodka pomegranate, tequila grapefruit, blackberry brandy and vodka, orange creamsicle and not pictured mojito (my favorite drink).  They were so fun to make and my guests just loved the trays of them being passed around.  This will be a definite for my next shindig.

Dinosaur Party

This was a really fun party!  The mom was a girl after my own heart!  The kids all got to dig mini dinosaur skeletons (orientaltradingcompany.com), then we made little prehistoric terrariums (dollar store glass bowls, aquarium pebbles, soil, mini succulents, plastic dinos and mini volcanoes I made from a silcone mold, plaster of paris and then painted).  The kids loved the projects.

made with 2 round cakes and one bundt cake. Carved into volcano shape. Chocolate frosting and then colored lava icing. A small mason jar inserted in the middle, dry ice added right before guests arrived.

I love making cookies! Slowly but surely I am getting better each time. Man, royal icing is tricky stuff!

I wish I had better printing software, but I use print shop and just eyeball the dimensions. One day I will learn how to use the Cricut machine I have had for 14 months now and never used!

I love contact paper! This dark wood grained type was perfect to trace dino prints, cut out, peel and stick onto the floor! Easy removal too!

My name is Deida, I live in the mountains in beautiful Sun Valley Idaho.  I own my own kids birthday party, after school art class and summer camp business called Petite Picasso.  It keeps me pretty busy!  I also am a mom to a spunky and imaginative little girl.  I express myself in many different art forms, when I have time that is.   I love to be a mom.  I love to cook.  I love to craft.  I love my job.   But how do you find a way to balance work, life and creative outlets?  Well, am hoping this blog holds me accountable in my journey towards a more balanced and art filled life.  Enjoy!
